Tikona is also known as Vitandgad. It is a ruling hill fort at Maval in western India. It is located near Kamshet and only 4.3 km from Pawana Lake. The amazing thing about the Tikona fort is the shape of the fort. It is pyramidal in shape. It has a 3500 ft high hill from the sea surface. Tikona itself means Triangular. Tikona fort is blessed with Trimbakeshwar Mahadev temple, Seven water lakes, and Satvahan Caves. It is the amazing fort for trekking as well as night camping near Pune.  

History- 

 In 1657, Shivaji Maharaj brought the whole of Konkan, which had been Nizam territory, under his control when he conquered Tikona along with the forts of Karnala, Lohgad, Mahuli, Songad, Tala, and Visapur. This fort was a strategic nexus: the center of control for the entire Pawna Maval region. In 1660, the Dhamale family, The Deshmukh’s from the Maval region were charged with ensuring the security of fort Tikona. It was under the Dhamale Deshmukh family for a long time. in 1682 under the charge of King Sambhaji Maharaj, Aurangzeb’s son Akabar was offered to stay on Tikona Fort. but earlier he shifted to Jaipur as climate did not suit him. in 1818, a small battle is fought by the Maratha army with the British before it captured by the British later.  

How to reach-  

The base village of the fort is Tikona Peth. the trekking path starts from the south parking area of Tikona Peth. the root is very safe and wide. It will take about an hour to reach the front gate of the fort.

Dinosaurs Park – ( Only 13.4 km’s from Escape Way Lake Camping )

Lohagad – Visapur fort – ( Only 16.7 km’s from Escape Way Lake Camping )

The Lohagad Fort and the Visapur Fort are two forts located near Malavli Railway station. Together they called twin Forts. During the monsoon, the top of both forts covered with mist and clouds and becomes particularly wet with growing moss. The roads and trails leading to the hill are quite slippery at this time of the year. So that precautions are necessary to be taken while trekking. 

Lohagad Fort-

Lohagad is the part of the western ghats. It rises to an evaluation of 3389 ft from the sea level. And it is located in the Southwest of the largest Visapur Fort. Lohagad overlooks the Pawna lake camping, located to the south of the mountain.

Lohagad has a long history with dynasties occupying it at different periods. Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj captured it in 1648 AD, but he was forced to surrender it to Mughal in 1665 AD by the Treaty of Purandar.

Visapur Fort-

It was built during 1713 – 1720 CE by Balaji Vishwanath, the first Peshwa of the Maratha Empire. It has an elevation of 3550 ft above sea level. on 4 March 1818, Visapur was attacked and occupied by the British.  

How to reach –

Both Forts are located in the range of 1 km area. Which are 12 km from Lonawala. And 17 km from Pawana Lake Camping. They are also accessed from Paud via Kolvan and Dudhiware Khind for all vehicles. 

Dudhiware waterfall – ( Only 10 km’s from Escape Way Lake Camping )

The Dudhiware Waterfall is a seasonal monotonic waterfall, located near Pawna Lake Lonavala. Approx height of this waterfall is 135 ft. At Dudhiware waterfall one can enjoy the thrill of this waterfall rappelling safely. Its streams are active during the pick of monsoon season 

How to reach- 

There are two routes to reach Dudhiware Waterfall. The first one is Kamashet-Pawna-Dudhiware, and the second one is Lonawala – Kusgaun – Dudhiware. Its only 10km away from Pawna lake camping.

The temple has beautiful flooring and majestic ceilings. There are Dhyana Mandir or meditation hall one floor below the spectrum. Overall the temple is a Peacefull place to visite. Tung was built in 1600 CE. it was built by the Adil Shahi dynasty but later was captured by Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Tung Fort has an elevation of 3527 ft from sea level. Since Pawana was built, it is now surrounded by water from three sides. So one can travel across in boat from Pawana dam to its base village, Tungi! 

Tung Fort is also named Kathingad Fort. The word “Kathin” means “Difficult” in Marathi.

How to reach –

Located 20km from Lonawala, one can reach the base village Tungwadi via Bushi Dam-INS Shivaji-Peth Shahapur-Tungwadi. Or from the Pawana dam by Boat.
